OUR FOUNDER'S HR JOURNEY

KRISTIN BALLAS, SPHR, CCP
Founder and Principal

Kristin Ballas has spent the past 15+ years developing her craft. She has been called a "builder" of HR. From her first job after graduating with her MBA to her most recent corporate HR leadership role, she has continually expanded her HR knowledge and leadership skill set.  Her resume of HR roles are highlighted below.

HR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (HRLP), Genworth Financial (Formerly GE Financial Assurance), Richmond, VA/Stamford, CT/NYC, NY

HR leadership two-year rotational program included three job assignments (Benefits + Compensation + Retirement, HR Generalist, and Project Manager), global cross-business projects, and in-class and virtual training. Hired as an Employee Benefits Sales and Service Specialist (NYC, 7/04 to 2/06) and was selected by HR for this HR leadership program. Successfully secured Life and Health License in the state of NY.​  Working at Genworth Financial, a GE spinoff, would be her first experience gaining exposure to how HR departments think about M&A separation activities.  Although she didn't know it yet, it would be these rotations that would form her career path.​

​SENIOR CONSULTANT, Deloitte Consulting, LLP, NYC, NY

​Human Capital Total Rewards practitioner who focused on Financial Services Industry. Also, was National Human Capital M&A practitioner. She led workstreams of transformational projects, mostly focused on Divestitures and Carve-outs. Created due diligence reports and facilitated deal documentation review of Purchase Agreements, Disclosure Statements, and Transition Services Agreements (TSAs). Partnered with clients to execute pre- and post-day 1 M&A activities to ensure exit of TSAs in timely manner. Hired as a Consultant and promoted within nine months.​

VICE PRESIDENT, HR BUSINESS PARTNER, PNC, Philadelphia, PA

​Trusted partner and strategic consultant who provided HR leadership and counsel to PNC Asset Management (AMG) business, serving NJ to FL, including offices in NW PA and OH. Client group included over 20 EVPs, 100 managers, and 1,500 employees. Developed and executed integrated talent solutions (e.g., 9-box assessments, talent reviews, employee development planning, 360-process, succession and replacement planning) to help drive revenue and fee-based business growth. Advised on routine and complex employee relations, which required external employment counsel (Jones Day) depositions and litigation training.  Wrote and disseminated HR communications to AMG managers. In 2011, one of 120 employees selected for executive mentor/mentee leadership program, resulted in 2013 lead project manager of CHRO annual leadership meeting for top 100 of 1,000 company-wide HR employees. HR lead for build out of FL market and Southeast region, a strategic plan initiative to generate $2B AUM by 2018, adding Wealth Management teams of 12 employees in 7 office locations; completed in approximately nine months. 

HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES, TIFF Investment Management (TIFF), Radnor, PA

Hired as first HR employee for this not-for-profit Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) firm.  Responsible for all HR areas including: Human Capital strategy, HR policies, onboarding and offboarding, recruitment, training and development, talent life cycle, compensation, benefits, leave administration, SEP retirement administration, staff communications, employee experience, employee relations, and immigration. Role required an entrepreneurial drive, focus, and HR technical expertise.  Successfully establish HR infrastructure and recruited the first hire for Catholic Investment Services (CIS), a non-profit organization of which TIFF invested seed capital. 

VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES, Berkadia Commercial Mortgage, Ambler, PA

At this Berkshire Hathaway and Jefferies Financial Group company, she oversaw and provided HR services for approximately 1,200 U.S. employees and independent contractors located in over thirty states and over 60 offices. Her responsibilities spanned from strategic initiatives such as creating a talent strategy to managing the day-to-day operational administration and execution of the HR functions, compliance, and policies.
